your faith is IMportant.

Christian Counseling in Littleton, CO

You’re tired of feeling like you have to choose between your faith and your wellbeing.

You wish someone could support your whole self- body, mind and spirit.

Are you suffering in silence, worried that your faith will be questioned if you seek therapy? Have you heard such ridiculous fallacies as “if your faith was stronger, you wouldn’t struggle with ____” or “just give it to God”?

You believe in God and faith is a big part of your life, but you are also dealing with some seriously hard challenges- whether they are life situations, relationship struggles, faith crises, or mental health diagnoses like depression, anxiety or PTSD.

You aren’t looking for just spiritual platitudes or someone to throw Bible verses at you non-stop. But, you also don’t want to go to a secular therapist who is going to question your intelligence, sanity, or character because you “believe in an invisible man in the sky.”

As a Christian, you too deserve highly-skilled, well-trained and theologically-informed therapy.

When Christians get therapy that addresses their whole self- mind, body and spirit- they often experience profound healing.

What we’ll work on

Christian Counseling can help with…

Christian Counseling can help with any of the issues that secular counseling can help with, it just adds the focus or nuance of being theologically-informed. Here are some specific faith-based issues that I have supported clients through:

  • Feeling Disconnected from God and/or self.

  • Struggling with shame or guilt and/or forgiveness.

  • Questioning faith, your purpose or God’s Plan.

  • Anger with God.

  • Coping with judgment or condemnation you have experienced from others.

  • Religious Trauma or wounds from other Christians.

At the end of the day, I want you to know:

Your WHOLE self deserves to be heard, seen and valued- Body, Mind and Spirit.

Christian Counseling with me is

Faith-affirming- seeking to understand how your beliefs impact your life, mental health, etc. I see your faith as a strength and resource in your life, not as something that I should be concerned about as a therapist.

Theologically informed- you can be confident that I won’t suggest or encourage things that go against your faith. But it isn’t Sunday school. No preaching here!

As integrated with faith as you want it to be- we co-create this together.

Not based on what I believe, but on what YOU believe.

Still 100% Therapy, utilizing evidence-based approaches and with a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Christian Counseling with me is not

Bible Study or “spiritual band-aiding”- I won’t just throw a scripture at you and think it fixes everything.

Judgmental- A client once told me “you are the least judgmental Christian I have met.” I have done this therapy gig long enough to have heard enough that nothing shocks me and no one should be judged.

One-size fits all- We figure out what works together. Whether you want a lot of faith-based talk, a little, or none at all, it’s up to you!

Bible only Counseling- While some clients want me to suggest verses as appropriate and relevant, it is only ever used to supplement other evidence based therapeutic approaches.

Me telling you what to believe or preaching at you- this is based on your beliefs.

Questions?

FAQs

  • Definitely not! My clients have a variety of faith backgrounds, or identify as agnostic or atheist. Integration of faith is a very personal choice, not one I thrust upon anyone. I ask all clients about their spirituality and how much they would like that integrated into our work.

  • In addition to my Masters in Counseling, I also have a Masters in Christian Studies from Denver Seminary. In this program, I focused on how to apply faith and theology to life issues and circumstances.

  • This can vary from client to client and is always something we can adapt and change over our time together. I have had clients who like to start and/or end their sessions in prayer. I may utilize scripture or theological principles. We may talk about shame, grace and forgiveness. I may ask to hear your testimony, as that often tells me a lot about how your faith has been impactful in the past. That being said, no two clients are the same. For some, they just like the peace of mind that they can talk freely about faith or mention God without judgment and that is enough for them. We will work together to identify what approach you would like and how much, or how little faith integration you prefer.
